In January 2019, 193 acres of the Charity’s woodland were designated as an area of Suitable Alternative Natural Greenspace [SANG]. Providing the SANG is a condition of the planning approval for the Linden Homes housing development on the former Ridgewood Hospital site.
The area is now leased by the Charity to the management company established by Linden Homes who are accountable to the council [Surrey Heath Borough Council] for maintaining it in a suitable condition as a space open to the public.
The lease provides rental income to the Charity which it can use for the benefit of local people who are in need, hardship and distress. In the picture representatives of the Council, the Charity and the developer are seen at the inspection tour prior to the handover.
